About Us
2021 Mountaions Arts Xpo
Visit the Blue Mountains this spring and help celebrate our inaugural annual arts festival, MAX21, (Mountains Arts Xpo 2021), a showcase of the ‘best of the best’ of our region’s creative talent.
The Artisan Spring Fair featuring elegant marquees will take place during 9-10th and 16-17th October in the grounds of the luxurious Fairmont Hotel in Leura. Come along and enjoy the entertainment and mixing with the forty artisans and their wares on offer. It will be a grand occasion with plenty to see and do.
An exciting event is the public launch at United Cinemas, The Edge, Katoomba of a new online collaborative art platform, Fluidity. Based on Creative Commons principles Fluidity allows for easier development of brave new multi-disciplinary works. Here is an opportunity for artists of all disciplines to collaborate in innovative new works of art from music to visual art and film and showcase their imagination. If you are interested in art but not an artist come to the launch and discover the new methods being developed to create art from across the disciplines.
As you travel the Blue Mountains join in the Open Studio Trail from Lawson to Leura and see art and how it is created. There will be five studios which you can visit and be made welcome while talking to the artist, enjoying the art and mountain vistas.
Other activities from within the mountains include workshops on lampshade making, macrame, silver jewellery and more. These are ticketed events with each workshop having a bookable link to guide you through the process.
A highlight on 9th October will be an eco-arts afternoon forum on ‘caring for country’, combining insights from Western science and indigenous cultures at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, Katoomba. On 16th October a one day Yenama Budyeri Gumada Workshop of learning about applying indigenous ways of knowing will be organised in two sessions – morning and afternoon concluding with a performance of the Aboriginal Elders Choir. This is also taking place at The Cultural Centre in Katoomba.
Finally, on the evenings of 9th and 16th, music concerts organised by Fusion Boutique featuring headline acts will take place at popular venues.
